How to Make a Café-Style Mocha at Home
Share
A mocha is the perfect treat when you want coffee and chocolate at once. The good news: you can make a great one at home without any special equipment.
What you'll need
- Strong coffee — a Moka pot or AeroPress brew works great as an espresso stand-in
- 1–2 tablespoons cocoa powder or chocolate syrup
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to taste)
- About 1 cup of milk
Step-by-step
- Brew a strong, concentrated coffee — about 2 ounces.
- In your mug, stir the cocoa powder and sugar into the hot coffee until fully dissolved. This is the key to a smooth mocha with no gritty bits.
- Warm and froth the milk (a jar or handheld frother works well).
- Pour the milk over the chocolate coffee, holding back the foam, then spoon the foam on top.
- Dust with cocoa and enjoy.
Make it your own
Add a dash of vanilla, a pinch of cinnamon, or a peppermint twist for the holidays. Use dark cocoa for a richer, less sweet drink.
