How to Make AeroPress Coffee (and Why People Love It)

The AeroPress is a small, nearly indestructible brewer that makes a clean, smooth cup in about a minute. It's forgiving for beginners, endlessly tweakable for nerds, and small enough to throw in a bag. Here's a recipe that works every time.

Why people love it

Short immersion plus gentle pressure produces a cup that's rich but low in bitterness and acidity. It's also easy to clean — the used grounds pop out as a dry puck.

A simple recipe

  1. Heat water to about 200°F (just off the boil).
  2. Grind 15–17g of coffee to a medium-fine texture, like table salt.
  3. Add the grounds to the chamber, pour in 220g of water, and stir gently.
  4. Steep for 1 to 1.5 minutes.
  5. Insert the plunger and press slowly and steadily until you hear a hiss.

Dial it in

Too sour? Grind finer or steep longer. Too bitter? Grind coarser or use slightly cooler water. The AeroPress responds fast to small changes, which is what makes it so fun.

Start with fresh beans

Because the method is so clean, it shows off the character of good coffee. Try it with a bright single-origin or a balanced medium roast from our freshly roasted lineup.
