How to Make Iced Coffee at Home (Fast Method)
Share
Cold brew is great, but it takes 12+ hours. When you want iced coffee now, flash brewing — brewing hot directly over ice — gives you a bright, refreshing cup in minutes.
Why brew over ice?
Brewing hot and cooling instantly locks in aromatic flavors that slowly fade in room-temperature coffee. The ice you brew onto becomes part of your recipe, so the cup ends up chilled but not watery — if you get the ratio right.
The fast method
- Use your normal pour-over or drip setup, but plan for ice. If you'd normally use 350g of water, use about 200g of hot water and 150g of ice.
- Grind a bit finer than usual and add your coffee.
- Fill your carafe or mug with the measured ice.
- Brew the hot coffee directly over the ice so it chills on contact.
- Stir, add more ice if needed, and serve.
Make it your own
Add a splash of milk, a little simple syrup, or a pinch of cinnamon. Lighter roasts make especially bright, fruity iced coffee; medium roasts taste smooth and classic.
